After a year with the Westchester Knicks in the D-League, former BYU guard Jimmer Fredette decided to move to China to play for the Shanghai Sharks for the 2016-17 season.
And what an incredible season it was.
He put on scoring clinics every night, took home the Merlion Cup title, won the 3-point contest, won the league’s International MVP Award and reinvigorated a Sharks fan base that hadn’t seen success in years.
He also got more publicity stateside than he had since he left BYU. He was featured on ESPN’s Outside the Lines, had stories done about him on Yahoo, ESPN and other major publications and carried the world basketball spotlight to the CBA.
Here is a look back at that remarkable season, including all of our game stories, and video of some of his best performances.
