Jimmer Fredette tracker, CBA game 28: Sharks get big win

Even without the services of leading scorer Jimmer Fredette, the Shanghai Sharks were able to come away with a 97-92 win over the Shanxi Brave Dragons on Sunday.

Without Fredette, who tweaked his left ankle in the second quarter of the Sharks 100-96 win on Friday, Guerschon Yabusele stepped up and had a monster game.

Yabusele finished with 33 points on 12 for 21 shooting from the floor, including 3 for 7 from beyond the arc and 6 for 8 from the free-throw line. He added 16 rebounds and six assists while playing a game-high 47:07.

Lu Wei added 19 points on 5 for 12 shooting from beyond the arc as the Sharks improved their league-best record to 24-4.

Liu XiaoYu chipped in with nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds while Wu Quanxi registered 12 points on a perfect 5 for 5 shooting night while grabbing nine rebounds.

Jamaal Franklin led the way for the Brave Dragons with 31 points, but he had an off shooting night as he made just 10 of 25 shots, including just 5 of 17 from 3-point range.

Henry Sims added 23 points on 9 for 14 shooting with eight rebounds while Wang Lei chipped in with 11 points and 10 boards.

On a night where he didn’t play Fredette actually improved on his scoring lead thanks to some tough scoring nights from Franklin, MarShon Brooks (20) and Errick McCollum (29).

On the season, Fredette is averaging 37.3 points on 49.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 41.2 percent from beyond the arc and 92.9 percent from the free-throw line. He also chips in with 8.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 steals.

Up next for Fredette and the Sharks is a match-up on Friday with the Fujian Sturgeons.

The Sturgeons are 8-20 on the season following a 126-116 setback against Liaoning.

They are led by J.J. Hickson and Dwight Buycks. Hickson is averaging 25.2 points, 13.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists while Buycks puts up 21.2 points along with 6.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
