Jimmer Fredette tracker, CBA game 27: Fredette suffers ankle injury in big win

Guerschon Yabusele turned up his offensive game after the loss of Jimmer Fredette to carry the Shanghai Sharks to the 100-96 come-from-behind win over the Liaoning Flying Leopards on Friday night.

Yabusele finished with 34 points on 11 for 17 shooting from the floor, including 3 for 6 from distance and 9 for 13 from he foul line to go along with 15 rebounds and five assists.

Liu XiaoYu added 20 points and six assists as the Sharks improved to a league best 23-4 on the season.

Fredette registered 10 points on 4 for 7 shooting from the floor, including 2 for 5 from beyond the arc. He added four rebounds and a pair of assists in 16:15 before he departed midway through the second quarter with an ankle injury.

The Sharks were staggered by the loss of Fredette and fell behind by 12 at the half before they turned it on. They used a fantastic defensive effort in the second half as they outscored the Flying Leopards 57-41 to come away with the win.

Lester Hudson paced the Flying Leopards  in the loss with 30 points on 12 for 26 shooting with six rebounds while Han Dejun totaled 23 points on 6 for 11 shooting from the field and 10 for 10 from the free-throw line to go along with 11 rebounds.

Shavlik Randolph also put up some solid numbers with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

As for Fredette, he tweaked a tendon below his ankle, but didn’t suffer a tear. While he may miss some time, he is expecting to be okay with some rest.

Even though he had his lowest scoring output of the season thanks to his injury, Fredette is still leading the league in scoring, averaging 37.3 points on 49.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 41.2 percent from 3-point land and 92.9 percent from the foul line. He also chips in with 8.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 steals.

Up next for the Sharks is a game on Sunday with the Shanxi Brave Dragons who are 13-14 on the season after a win over the Beikong Fly Dragons.

The Brave Dragons are led by Jamaal Franklin who is averaging 35.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 8.7 assists. Another familiar face is former NBA and Salt Lake City Stars big man Henry Sims who is putting up 19.6 points and 11 rebounds.
