A combined 63 points from Jimmer Fredette and Guerschon Yabusele wasn’t enough as the Shanghai Sharks fell to the Guandong Southern Tigers 116-107 on Sunday.

Rebounding was a big factor for the Southern Tigers in the win as they won the battle of the backboards 51-38, including 16-8 on the offensive end. That translated into 16 more shot attempts than the Sharks.

Zhou Peng led the way for the Tigers in the battle of the top two teams in the CBA standings with 30 points on 10 for 19 shooting from the floor, including 4 for 9 from beyond the arc.

Donald Sloan added 26 points, six rebounds and five assists while Carlos Boozer totaled 22 points and 10 rebounds as Guandong closed within one game of the league-leading Sharks.

Fredette paced the Sharks offensively in the loss with 35 points on 8 for 20 shooting from the field, including 3 for 10 from beyond the arc and a perfect 16 for 16 from the free-throw line. He added five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 37:30.

Yabusele also had a big night with 28 points on 8 for 17 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Zhang ZhaoXu added 11 points and five rebounds while Cai Liang chipped in with 12 points on 4 for 5 shooting from 3-point range while grabbing six boards.

On the season, Fredette is averaging a league-leading 38.8 points on 49.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 40.4 percent from 3-point land and an astounding 93 percent from the free-throw line. He also chips in with 8.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals.

Up next for Fredette and the Sharks is a matchup with the Shenzhen Leopards before they have a week off for the all-star game.

The Leopards are 16-8 on the season and in sixth spot in the playoff race following a 115-101 loss to Liaoning.

They are led by import players, Jeremy Pargo and Maciej Lampe. Pargo is averaging 25.2 points, 7.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds while Lampe puts up 21.8 points, 12.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
