The dream start for Jimmer Fredette and the Shanghai Sharks continued on Friday night as they managed a thrilling overtime 113-111 win over the Shandong Golden Stars.
Fredette led four Sharks in double figures with 47 points on 15 for 35 shooting from the floor, including 7 for 17 from beyond the arc and 10 for 11 from the foul line. He added a game and professional career-high 17 rebounds to go along with four assists and a steal in 52:38.
After a crazy tip on a missed free-throw by the Golden Stars to push the game to overtime, Fredette took over. He totaled eight of the Sharks 11 points in the extra session, including a pair of huge 3-pointers.
Guerschon Yabusele also had a nice night for Shanghai with 18 points on 7 for 12 shooting from the floor, including 3 for 6 from distance as the Sharks improved to 14-1 on the season.
Ju Peng and Lu Wei also reached double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Former Sharks’ guard A.J. Price led the way for the Golden Stars in the loss with 41 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds while Jason Thompson added 18 points and 11 boards.
On the season, Fredette is averaging a league-leading 39.1 points on 50.5 percent shooting from the field, including 42.5 percent from 3-point land and 91.3 percent from the free-throw line. He also chips in with 8.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals in more than 40 minutes a night.
What is even more impressive than his scoring stats is the fact that he is doing it while shooting above the 50/40/90 bench mark. On top of that, his effective field goal percentage is at an astounding 58.8 percent.
Up next for Fredette and the Sharks is a matchup with the Tiajin Gold Lions on Sunday. The Gold Lions are 5-10 on the season after a 126-116 loss to Liaoning.
Some players to watch are former NBA players Eugene “Pooh” Jeter and Jeremy Tyler. Jeter is having a good season, averaging 27.4 points, 7.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds while Tyler chips in with 20.7 points and 9.6 rebounds.
Wow. Jimmer is having a great individual season and it is a great team season as well. Do you have any idea how Jimmer is perceived in Shanghai and the league? Are people saying the great team record is due to Jimmer? Or maybe great coaching, or other? Any hint of Jimmermania over there?

They didn’t have a great record last year with A.J. Price.

True. The Sharks only won 18 games last season and missed the playoffs.

From what I have heard, he well thought of. Fans have chanted MVP, and Jimmer at games and plenty of people have held up signs.

And this guy can’t play in NBA, what!!! It is a joke and sad that NBA teams or should I say bad NBA teams like the Kings or Knicks who are dictated by so called franchise players. ie. Demarcus Cousins and Marshmelo Anthony on who plays on these teams that haven’t even had a sniff of playoffs. They were both scared that Jimmer would steal their thunder. He has been whiteballed by that league.

I was excited to see him play with the Sharks against the Rockets this year, an NBA team. I wanted to see what he could do with extended minutes against real NBA talent. And he did great! Of course, the Sharks didn’t win because they aren’t filled with NBA-level players, but he sure did show that he can score in an NBA game.

Truthfuly,I think the franchise players of these teams are scared of him stealing their limelight. They would drather be the star of a sub .500 team than have a great team player on the team. Almost all the teams he was let go from haven’t had a winning season in years ie. Kings,Knicks and Pelicans. Most of these NBA teams are worried he would cause too much trouble within the ranks of this bias league. That’s sad but that’s the state of modern day america and the NBA.
