Travis Hines of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk previewed the West Coast Conference Tournament, where he had the BYU Cougars listed as a contender behind Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.
Of the Cougars, he wrote, “The Cougars are longshots here, but by virtue of handing Gonzaga its lone L, they’ve got to be at least taken seriously by St. Mary’s and the Bulldogs.”
He also had the Cougars as the only team on the bubble, saying, “It’ll probably take a Herculean effort and probably a tournament title to get the Cougars in with an RPI hovering around 70 heading in. A win against St. Mary’s in the semis might move the needle, but in all likelihood, the Cougars need the automatic bid.”
Hines also named his first and second-team all conference performers. He had Eric Mika on the first-team along with Nigel Williams-Goss, Jock Landale, Przemek Karnowski and Jared Brownridge. The only other Cougar mentioned in his all-conference selections was TJ Haws who Hines had on his second team.
