The BYU Cougars had no answers for the hot shooting Saint Mary’s Gaels as they were thoroughly dismantled 81-50 on Monday night. The Gaels connected on 55.8 percent of their shots, including 13 of 25 from beyond the arc to run past the Cougars in the one-sided affair.

Jock Landale led the way for the Gaels with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, while Emmett Naar finished with 12 points and 11 assists.

TJ Haws paced BYU with 13 points while Eric Mika had 10 points and seven rebounds.


Why the Cougars lost

The Cougars didn’t get it done on either end of the floor. They had their worst offensive output in more than nine years as they hit on just 31.7 percent of their 60 attempts, including just 4 of 17 from beyond the arc.

The other end of the floor was just as bad as Saint Mary’s picked the BYU defense apart in just about every way possible.


What it means

The Cougars just didn’t have the horses to compete with the Gaels. They lacked depth and senior leadership, and it showed.
