Morning links: BYU is in good hands with Tanner Mangum; Jazz stumble in Power Rankings

Collin Wieder of Fansided’s Saturday Blitz looked at the quarterback situation at BYU where Tanner Mangum returns to the field to take over for the departed Taysom Hill.

Wieder wrote, “If you don’t remember Mangum, Nebraska and Boise State certainly do. Mangum beat both teams with Hail Mary-type passes in the first two games of the 2015 season.”

After video highlights of the two Hail Mary’s, Wieder continued, “He wasn’t publicized too much as the 2015 season progressed, but he proved he can perform at a high level. The Cougars finished the regular season 9-3 earning a bowl bid against rival Utah.”

Wieder then looked at Mangum’s stat line as a freshman and what he did for the Cougars as a sophomore before turning his attention to what Mangum will provide for the Cougars in 2017.

“If you weren’t able to see Mangum play, then you missed out. He’s got all the boxes checked for prototypical passers. He boasts a strong frame (6-foot-3, 215-pounds), powerful arm strength, decent mobility and platform versatility,” wrote Wider.

Jazz stumble in Power rankings

The Utah Jazz dropped three spots, from No. 5 to No. 8 in Marc Stein’s latest ESPN NBA Power Rankings.
