The Cougar NBA tracker, Brandon Davies, summer league, game 12: Davies makes huge contributions in championship

The San Antonio Spurs used some huge bench performances from Jonathan Simmons and Treveon Graham as they knocked off the Phoenix Suns 93-90 to win the summer league championship on Monday night in Las Vegas Nevada.

Simmons had 23 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor and 9-for-12 from the free-throw line to go along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Graham added 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range with three steals and two rebounds.

Kyle Anderson and Darion Atkins also did some nice things for San Antonio. Anderson had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Atkins totaled eight points on 4-for-6 shooting with two rebounds in limited minutes.

Mike James and T.J. Warren carried the offensive load for the Suns in the loss. James had 32 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the floor, including 50 percent from beyond the arc with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Warren chipped in with 17 points on 50 percent shooting with six rebounds and two blocks.

Archie Goodwin and Alex Len also put up numbers for Phoenix. Goodwin had 12 points, three blocks and two assists while Len managed nine points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots.

After a solid stat line of five rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in 9:47 in the Spurs semi-final win over the Atlanta Hawks, Brandon Davies had a big performance in the championship game. He played 21:58 and finished with four points on 1-for-4 shooting from the floor, including a miss on his only 3-point attempt and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He added a team-high eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end to go along with two steals, two blocks and a steal.

Davies made his biggest impact during the second half as the Spurs opened up a big lead. His first two points of the night came after he grabbed an offensive rebound and drew a foul from Josh Harrellson late in the third to get to the free-throw line.

He followed that up with back-to-back blocked shots on the first two Suns’ possessions of the fourth quarter. He also added a lay up. two offensive rebounds and a steal in a four-minute stretch when San Antonio pushed the lead to 13.

For the summer league, Davies played 12 games for the Magic and the Spurs and averaged 3.8 points on 37.5 percent shooting from the floor, including 27.3 percent from beyond the arc and 92.3 percent from the free-throw line. he added 3.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.5 steals in 15.6 minutes.
