After leading for much of the game, the Marquette Golden Eagles gave up a late lead and fell on the road to the DePaul Blue Demons 61-58 on Wednesday.
Billy Garrett Jr., and Jamee Crockett did most of the damage for the Blue Demons in the come-from-behind victory. Garrett finished with 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor, including 2 of 4 from distance. He scored 8 of the last 11 points for DePaul, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 1:56 remaining. Crockett added 13 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Darrick Woods also made some big contributions on an off shooting night with eight points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Duane Wilson led a balanced scoring attack for the Golden Eagles with 11 points. Juan Anderson and Derrick Wilson also had solid efforts in the loss. Anderson had nine points on 4 of 7 shooting with eight rebounds while Wilson had nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Matt Carlino had a brutal shooting night in the loss. In 36 minutes on the floor, he registered 11 points, but made just 3 of 14 shots from the field, including 1 of 10 from behind the arc. He also struggled from the free-throw line where he made only 4 of 7 attempts. Although his shot wasn’t falling, he did manage four rebounds, two assists and two steals as Marquette dropped to 0-1 in the Big East.
