The greatness of the Olympic Games

Today is a sad day for me. It’s a day where the Winter Olympics are over for another four years.  I love the Olympics so much and had a great time over the last few weeks with all the events.

I must admit that this Olympics was even better than most thanks to the hockey and curling teams from Canada.  It made these games much for meaningful for me seeing Canada play so well and take home Gold in all the key team sports.

Thanks to the benefit of Tivo, I can relive those moments over and over again until the next winter Olympics starts four years from now. One of the coolest parts of the games for me is the back story that we get to about all of the amazing athletes and what they have had to go through to make their dreams come true.  Some of those story are just heartbreaking, while others are incredibly moving.  It is great to see people who are willing to pay the price and reach their goals in the process. That to me is something that we often miss in today’s world.  Not many people have the will and desire to do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals, but that is what most of the athletes in the Olympics do.  They sacrifice more than most of us can ever imagine to get to where they want to go.  I am in awe of the people who are willing and able to do that.

Watching the Olympics motivates me to try to be more than I am right now because it helps me to see what is possible if you pay the price to succeed.  That is the greatness of the Games for me.
