BYU Cougs in the news: Williams makes huge scoring plays for Packers; Hill finds the endzone again; Davies lights it up (video)

It was a massive Sunday for a bunch of former Cougars on the field and on the court.

Jamaal Williams continued his strong play since returning to the field as the Green Bay Packers knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs 31-24.

The Cougars’ all-time leading rusher showed his ability on the ground and as a receiver in the win, totaling a pair of huge touchdowns including a ridiculous diving catch in the back of the endzone.

The NFL Twitter page shared highlights of the amazing catch and throw from Aaron Rodgers.

The other score from Williams came on a one-yard plunge in the first quarter that gave the Packers a 14-0 lead.

All told, Williams finished with 22 yards rushing, three catches for 14 yards and the two scores.

Through seven games, Williams has rushed for 218 yards and a touchdown while adding 19 receptions for 127 yards and four scores.

Taysom Hill also made waves in the receiving game as the New Orleans Saints knocked off the Arizona Cardinals, 31-9.

In the victory, Hill registered three catches for 63 yards including a five-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees.

The NFL Twitter page shared a video of the catch.

Hill now has 81 yards rushing and eight catches for 97 yards and three touchdowns.

A handful of other former Cougars also made some big plays on the gridiron.

Fred Warner recorded a team-high six tackles as the San Francisco 49ers hammered the Carolina Panthers 51-13.

It pushed his season tackle total to 39 for the undefeated 49ers.

Ziggy Ansah recovered a fumble as the Seahawks held on to beat the Atlanta Falcons, 27-20.

Harvey Langi chalked up two stops for the New York Jets in another rough loss.

Sione Takitaki had two tackles of his own for the Browns in a 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots. In the same game, Kyle Van Noy finished with a sack.

On the hardwood

Brandon Davies delivered another impressive scoring performance as Barcelona dropped a tough 89-83 decision to Zaragoza.

In the loss, Davies put up 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line. He added four rebounds before fouling out in 19:47 on the court.

Through six games, Davies is in the top 10 in the Spanish League in both scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 16.3 points on 59.3 percent shooting from the field, 55.6 percent from beyond the arc and 88.5 percent at the foul line. He also chips in with 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 assists in 21 minutes.

Charles Abouo also had a big game over the weekend as FOS Provence dropped another close game.

In the loss, he finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field including 60 percent from 3-point land. He added three boards, an assist and a steal in 25 minutes.

Through three games, Abouo is averaging 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 assists in 22 minutes.
