The 100th season of the NFL got underway on Thursday and with it, we saw the return of Jamaal Williams for his third season with the Green Bay Packers.
While it wasn’t an overly productive night for Williams in the Packers’ 10-3 win over the rival Chicago Bears, he did make some key plays in the big victory. All told, he finished with 0 yards on five carries but did register two receptions for 15 yards on two targets.
Moving over to the hardwood, Brandon Davies, Charles Abouo and Frank Bartley IV have seen game action in recent days.
Davies saw his first game action in a Barcelona jersey and made some very solid contributions in a 71-69 exhibition game loss to Morabanc Andorra on Thursday. In the two-point setback, the former BYU big man recorded 10 points on 50 percent shooting from the field while connecting on all six of his free throws. He added six rebounds, two steals, and an assist in 21:09 on the floor and was a team-best +17 in efficiency.
Davies and his new teammates will be back on the floor on Monday against Club Joventut Badalona in the semifinal of the Catalan League.
As for Abouo, he has had some absolutely fantastic performances while suiting up for Cote D’Ivoire in the World Cup. He has been his country’s best player in two of their four games including a 23-point night against a very tough Polish squad where he connected on 10 of 16 shots from the field and 2 of 3 attempts from beyond the arc. He also recorded six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 32:21 on the floor.
Through his first four games of the tournament, Abouo is averaging 13 points on 51.4 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from 3-point range and 88.9 percent from the foul line. He has also chipped in with 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 25 minutes a contest.
Up next for Abouo is a Sunday matchup with Korea in the Classification round.
Frank Bartley IV also saw the court this week and had a productive outing as his CBCV Carramimbre squad, who play in Spain’s LEB Gold, came away with an 81-72 win over Palencia. In the win, the former Cougar made the start and recorded 12 points.
Bartley will be back on the floor on Saturday in another tune-up game.
