Brandon Davies was back in the headlines even though he and his Zalgiris Kaunas teammates don’t resume play in the Lithuanian League playoffs until Thursday.
Davies, along with two other former Utah college players, made Eurohoops.net’s top 10 American players in EuroLeague this season.
Davies came in at No. 5 in the top 10 rankings after some massive play down the stretch, including a remarkable run in the quarterfinal series win over Olympiacos. He was at his best during that four-game stretch as he averaged 17 points on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor and 83.3 percent from the foul line. He also chipped in with 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists in 25:54.
Davies followed that up with another strong effort in the semifinal loss to Fenerbahce where he recorded a huge double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds (five on the offensive end) and a pair of assists.
Former Utah State sharpshooter Jaycee Carroll also made the list at No. 9, while one-time Ute, Will Clyburn came in one stop ahead of Davies at No. 4.

Mika named best young player in Serie A by Italian website
Basket Universo handed out its awards recently and former BYU big man, Eric Mika, took home the honor of The Best Young Player of the Season for Italy’s Serie A.
He won the voting in a landslide thanks to a very strong push from the website’s readers. The award is some fun recognition after a strong rookie campaign that saw Mika average 14.3 points on 54.8 percent shooting from inside the arc and 74.4 percent shooting from the charity stripe. He also had a big year on the glass, finishing in the top 10 in rebounding with 7.3 boards a game to go along with 1.2 steals and 1.1 assists in 28.4 minutes.
