BYU Cougs in the news: Jimmer just misses double-double in win; Jordan Leslie finds a new team; The latest on Collinsworth and Mika

Jimmer Fredette had another solid showing on Wednesday as the Shanghai Sharks returned to the win column with a 111-92 victory over the Tianjin Gold Lions.

Fredette finished with 29 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-11 from beyond the arc and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line. He added nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in 37 minutes.

On the season, he is averaging 37.5 points on 44 percent shooting from inside the arc, 44 percent from 3-point land and 96 percent from the free-throw line. He also chips in with 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in 40.7 minutes a game.

Up next for Fredette and the Sharks is a matchup with the Guangdong Southern Tigers who are 15-6 on the season after a 113-101 win over Guangzhou.

The Southern Tigers are led by Jianlian Yi and Andrew Nicholson. Yi is averaging 22.2 points, 13.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while Nicholson puts up 23.7 points, 9.7 boards and 1.9 assists.

Leslie finds a new home

Former BYU wide receiver Jordan Leslie is back in the NFL after signing a deal to join the Denver Broncos practice squad on Wednesday.

He broke the news of his signing on Twitter.

It is the second team for Leslie on the season after spending the early part of the year with the Cleveland Browns where he made his first NFL catch.

Collinsworth sits

After playing a combined 22 minutes in his first two NBA games with the Dallas Mavericks, Kyle Collinsworth played less than a minute in his last three games. He had his second straight DNP-CD (did not play – coach’s decision) on Wednesday as the Mavericks beat the Indiana Pacers 98-94.

In three games on the floor, he has scored four points, grabbed two rebounds, handed out two assists and collected a steal.

The Mavericks are back on the floor on Friday when they head to New Orleans to face off with the Pelicans.

The latest on Eric Mika

Eric Mika saw his run of 10 straight games scoring in double figures come to an end on Tuesday as VL Pesaro fell to Red October Cantu 92-73. In the loss, Mika finished with nine points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field and 1-for-2 from the foul line. He added seven rebounds, two assists and a block in 25 minutes.

Through 12 games, he is averaging 14.3 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the floor with 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 assists in 28.5 minutes.
