BYU Cougs in the news: Collinsworth records monster double-double; Ansah registers game ending sack; Williams scores twice (video)

It was a really good weekend for many of the former Cougars playing professionally on the gridiron and on the hardwood. Not only did Jimmer Fredette hit the 50-point mark for the fifth time in the last 10 games, but a handful of other former BYU stars made big impacts in winning efforts.

On the hardwood

Kyle Collinsworth followed up his strong shooting performance on Friday night with his best game of the season a night later as the Texas Legends crushed the Maine Red Claws 127-105. In the big win, he totaled a season-high 21 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the floor and 3-for-5 from the foul line. He added game highs with 14 rebounds and nine assists while also collecting a pair of steals in 40 minutes of action.

Through 14 games, he is averaging 9.2 points on 49.1 percent shooting from the field, including 46.2 percent from 3-point range. He also chips in with 8.4 rebounds (2.8 on the offensive end), 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 35.2 minutes a contest.

Eric Mika scored in double figures for the ninth straight game as his VL Pesaro squad fell to The Flexx Pistoia Basket 86-83. He finished with 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the floor and 5-for-8 from the free-throw line in just 19 minutes.

On the season, he is averaging 14.6 points on 55.3 percent shooting from inside the arc and 72.5 percent from the foul line. He also averages 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28.3 minutes a game.

On the gridiron

Ziggy Ansah had one of his best showings of the season as the Detroit Lions held on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-21. He totaled a season-best seven tackles, including six of the solo variety while adding a huge fourth-quarter sack to finish off the game.

On the season, Ansah has 32 tackles, two tackles for loss, six sacks and a forced fumble.

Jamaal Williams had a big performance as well as the Green Bay Packers came from behind to knock off the Cleveland Browns in 27-21 in overtime. He totaled a season-high seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown to go along with 15 carries for 49 yards and another score.

It was his second game in three weeks with two touchdowns and his third consecutive game with more than 100 yards from scrimmage.

On the season, Williams has carried the ball 106 times for 386 yards and four touchdowns. He has also caught 22 passes for 231 yards and two more scores.

Kai Nacua also made some big plays in the game between the Packers and the Browns as he totaled a season-high five tackles.
