Morning links: BYU player recognized for prep career as QB; Rodney Hood a projected top-12 shooting guard

Zack Poff of Max Preps released a videoranking the top 10 high school quarterbacks in the nation over the last decade, and former Jordan High and current BYU player Austin Kafentzis made the list.

Other signal callers to make the list were Deshaun Watson, Matt Barkley and Jake Browning.

Kafentzis isn’t the only high school player from Utah to garner recognition from Max Preps in recent weeks.

East offensive linemen Junior Angilau and Sam Taimani, along with Viewmont punter Preston Pitt, were named Second-Team Preseason All-Americans.

Speaking of preseason All-American punters, Sports Illustrated released its 2017 Preseason All-American team for college football, and Utah’s Mitch Wishnowsky was the First-Team punter.

Of Wishnowsky, they wrote, “A 2016 SI All-America selection, Wishnowsky averaged 47.7 yards per punt as a sophomore (second in the nation among full-time starters) and led the country in punts inside the 10-yard line.”

Wishnowsky also was the First-Team punter on CBS Sports’ Preseason All-American team.
