Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports ranked the starting NFL quarterbacks on the hot seat in 2017, and former Utah quarterback Alex Smith was the first player on the list.
Speaking of Smith’s situation in Kansas City, which was rated as scalding, La Canfora wrote, “When a team in win-now mode goes up and makes a move as bold as what Andy Reid and John Dorsey did, and they do it for a top-ranked prospect playing your position, well, your time is pretty much up. And when you bank over $15M a year and you haven’t been able to get the team over the top and you don’t get the ball downfield and they clearly want to get more dynamic on that side of the ball, you have just become a place-holder. A highly paid placeholder on a team with Super Bowl aspirations.”
Kuzma the ‘best player available’ for San Antonio

The player he had listed for the San Antonio Spurs at pick No. 29 is former Utah standout, Kyle Kuzma.
Speaking of why Kuzma is a fit for the Spurs, O’Donnell wrote, “A versatile 6’9 forward who shined at the draft combine in Chicago. If his jump shot is for real (he hit 32 percent from deep last year), he can have a long career.”
For Utah’s two first round picks, O’Donnell has the best fits being a pair of wing players in Semi Ojeleye of SMU at No. 24 and Colorado shooting guard Derrick White at No. 30.
