Sunday morning quarterback: Stars and stats from BYU’s win over Utah State

The BYU defense had another stellar performance as the Cougars knocked off the Utah State Aggies 28-10 at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday night.

The Cougars held the Aggies to just 198 yards of offense and 11 first downs on their way to their seventh win in eight tries after starting the season 1-3.

The Aggies got on the scoreboard first on a 28-yard field goal from Brook Warren. Kent Myers was key on the drive as he completed two third-down passes to keep the chains moving.

The Cougars took the lead 7-3 when Jamaal Williams scored from 2 yards out. Nick Kurtz made a massive play on the possession with a 35-yard reception to move the ball into Utah State territory.

BYU extended its lead to 14-3 when Michael Shelton scooped up a Damion Hobbs fumble and returned it 52 yards for the score. Logan Taele had a huge hand in the play as he ripped the ball away from Hobbs on a four and 1.
