Morning links: BYU basketball projected to be a top 6 mid-major; Utah Jazz move up power rankings

David Gardner of Sports Illustrated took a look at the top six mid-major contenders this season in college basketball based on SI’s College Basketball Projection System and the BYU Cougars made the list at No. 5.

 Talking about the Cougars’ new-look roster, Gardner writes, “Last season’s leading men, Kyle Collinsworth and Chase Fischer, are gone, but guard Nick Emery returns to build on a promising freshman season. The Cougars will also look for big production from newcomers like transfer Elijah Bryant (Elon) and TJ Haws.”

The system also projected each player’s stat line. It had Emery leading the way with 17.9 points a game. It had for other Cougars scoring in double-figures, including Eric Mika, Kyle Davis, Bryant and Haws.
