Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish of CBS Sports ranked the 101 top players in college basketball and both the Utes and Cougars were represented on the list.
Kyle Kuzma was the highest ranked local player, coming in at No. 77 on the list.
“Overshadowed by the play of Jakob Poeltl and Brandon Taylor. Kuzma is an NBA prospect who will flirt with double-digit double-doubles this year,” writes Norlander. “Utah is something of a mystery, but Kuzma is reliable and a really good shooter from 2-point range. Few small/power forwards have better touch from the mid-range. If he’s developed a 3-point shot, then look out.”
Of Nick Emery, who landed at No.89, Norlander writes, “BYU has a way of getting guys on this list every single season. Jimmer Fredette, Tyler Haws, Kyle Collinsworth, now Emery. This guy blasted the nets last season at BYU, averaging 16.3 points and taking 247 3-pointers. He can also dish and rebound too. Fun player.”
