The Cougars dominate second half for easy win

The BYU Cougars used another dominating second half performance as they ran away from the European Basketball Academy 102-74 in Barcelona, Spain on Monday night. They turned a two-point half time lead into a decisive win by outscoring the EBA 60-34 in the second half, including a 31-13 effort in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars had an impressive shooting performance even though they still struggled at the free-throw line. They shot 40 for 68 from the floor (58.8 percent), including 8 for 22 from beyond the arc (36.4 percent), but made just 16 of 25 from the charity stripe.

The Cougars did a nice job on the glass with 38 rebounds, including 13 on the offensive end while handing out 25 assists on 40 field goals.

BYU used a balanced offensive performance to improve to 3-0 on the four game trip in Spain. Chase Fischer and Kyle Collinsworth led the way as seven players score in double figures. Fischer totaled 22 points on 7 for 11 shooting from the floor including 3 for 7 from beyond the arc with five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Collinsworth added 11 points on 7 for 7 shooting to go along with 14 assists, five rebounds and three steals.

The Cougars also got excellent contributions out of their big men. Corbin Kaufusi finished with 12 points on  5 for 7 shooting from the floor with 10 rebounds, three blocks and a steal while Kyle Davis managed 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Nate Austin had a solid night with 10 points on a perfect 5 for 5 shooting from the floor to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

Jake Toolson and Nick Emery reached double figures as well. Toolson had 10 points on 50 percent shooting with three rebounds and an assist in 15 minutes while Emery registered 11 points on 4 for 6 shooting from the field with two boards and an assist in his first start of the trip.

Jordan Chatman chipped in with nine points on 50 percent shooting from the floor with three rebounds and an assist in 20 minutes.

Through three games, five Cougars are averaging in double figures led by Fischer with 16.7 points on 50 percent shooting with eight steals. Jamal Aytes is second on the team with 15 points and 6.0 rebounds while Collinsworth has added 12 points, 8.3 assists, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 1.7 blocks.

Davis and Emery have also shown well so far. Davis is averaging 11.7 points on 53.3 percent shooting from the floor with 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks while Emery has chipped in with 10.3 points on 54.5 percent shooting from the field, including 38.5 percent from 3-point land.

Austin and Kaufusi have done their best work on the glass for the Cougars. Austin had averaged 6.3 points on 80 percent shooting with 7.7 rebounds while Kaufusi has recorded 6.3 points, a team leading 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 22.3 minutes.
