The Cougar NBA tracker, Brandon Davies: Summer league, game 9

The San Antonio Spurs managed to hold on to knock off the Brooklyn Nets 74-71 and advance in the summer league tournament on Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

San Antonio jumped out to an 18-point lead midway through the second quarter, but the Nets were able to close the gap and even took the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Kyle Anderson and Jonathan Simmons led the way for the Spurs in the win. Anderson had 25 points on 10-for-22 shooting from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Simmons managed 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor with five assists, four rebounds and two steals coming off the bench.

Cady Lalanne and Jarrell Eddie also made an impact for San Antonio. Lalanne had eight points on 4-for-7 shooting with five rebounds and two blocks while Eddie finished with eight points on 2-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc with four rebounds.

Markel Brown and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson carried the load for the Nets in the loss. Brown had 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field with three rebounds and two steals while Hollis-Jefferson had 11 points on 5-for-13 shooting with eight rebounds, an assist and a block.

Cliff Alexander and Darius Adams also did some nice things for Brooklyn. Alexander totaled eight points, a game-high 13 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists while Adams chipped in with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting from the floor with six rebounds, a team-high three assists and a pair of steals

Brandon Davies was back in the starting lineup and made some solid contributions on the glass in the Spurs victory. He finished with two points on 0-for-2 shooting from the floor, including a miss on his only 3-point attempt and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He added six rebounds and a block in 17:16.

So far this summer, Davies is averaging 3.9 points on 43.3 percent shooting from the floor and 100 percent from the free-throw line to go along with 3.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes a game.

Up next for Davies and the Spurs is a matchup with the Boston Celtics on Saturday afternoon.
