After a rough couple of weeks Brandon Davies and ES Chalon-Sur-Saone got back on track with a 100-78 win over SO Maritime Boulogne on Saturday.
The win snapped a three game losing streak that included a pair of heartbreaking one-point losses, including a 85-84 setback to first place Strasbourg IG on Wednesday. Davies was back in the starting lineup in that game but played just 16 minutes and finish with six points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Saturday’s game was a much better showing for both Davies and Chalon as they improved to 12-13 on the season. After a tight first half saw Chalon clinging to a two-point advantage, they used 52-32 second half to come away with the win.
Davies had one of his best offensive games of the season with game-high 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, including 1-for-1 from 3-point range and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. He added four rebounds, four assists and a steal in 25 minutes on the floor.
Davies had plenty of help in the win as five other Chalon players reached double figures in scoring, including Marcus Dove and Jason Rich. Dove came off the bench to score 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field with 14 rebounds and two steals in 21 minutes while Rich had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting with six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Anthony Ireland added 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting with four assists while Ilian Evitmov chipped in with 10 points, five assists and two steals. William Gradit also had 10 points, while Scott Suggs finished with eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Darnell Wilson led the way for Boulogne in the loss with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. A couple of familiar faces to NCAA basketball also made some solid contributions in the game. Alando Tucker (former Wisconsin All-American) had 19 points, three rebounds and two assists while Tweety Carter (Baylor) had 13 points, two rebounds and two helpers. Kenny Boynton (Florida) chipped in with 11 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Up next for Davies and Chalon is a Saturday matchup with SLUC Nancy Basket Pro. Nancy is 14-11 in France ProA play after a 77-72 setback to Chalon-Reims.
They are led by Keydren Clark (Saint Peter’s) who is averaging 15.8 points, 3.4 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Vaughn Duggins (Wright State) is also having a nice season with 13.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds while Florent Pietrus manages 9.8 points on 61.8 percent shooting from inside the arc with 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
In nine games for Davies this season, he is averaging 10.1 points on 50 percent shooting from inside the arc and 72.7 percent from the free-throw line with 5.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.6 minutes.
