The Matt Carlino tracker: Game 20

The Golden Eagles couldn’t stop the streaking Pirates as Marquette fell 80-70 to Seton Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

Sterling Gibbs led the way for Seton Hall in the win with 24 points on 9-for-17 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. He added 10 assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals as the Pirates improved to 14-6 on the season. He got plenty of help thanks to the impressive play of Khadeen Carrington and Brandon Mobley. Carrington finished with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor to go along with seven rebounds and five assists while Mobley registered 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Angel Delgado added 12 points and 11 rebounds while Jaren Sina chipped in with 11 points and six assists.

Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures led by the 16 points on Matt Carlino. Sandy Cohen III managed 11 points and three assists off the bench while Derrick Wilson had a nice all-around game with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Juan Anderson chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Carlino had another solid night in the loss. He made 6-of-14 shots from the floor, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds, five assists and a steal in 37 minutes of action. He scored nine of his points in the first half on three made shots from distance. His third triple of the half tied the game at 25.

The game got away early in the second half as Marquette trailed by 22 before Carlino even attempted a shot in the second stanza.

Up next for Carlino and the Golden Eagles is a Saturday matchup with the Butler Bulldogs.
