The New Orleans Pelicans took really good care of the ball as they took a 2-0 lead in the season series with a 97-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night. They managed just eight turnovers while forcing the Spurs into 17 of their own to secure the win.
Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson led the way for the Pelicans as they improved to 15-14 on the season. Davis finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks three assists and a pair of steals while Anderson totaled 22 points and seven rebounds. Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans also made some nice contributions in the victory. Holiday had 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks while Evans chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
Tim Duncan and Cory Joseph led the way for the underhanded Spurs. Duncan had 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting as well as 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Joseph got the start in place of Tony Parker and had 20 points on 8 for 9 shooting from the floor to go along with five assists and three rebounds. Marco Belinelli added 13 points while Manu Ginobili chipped in with 12 points and five assists.
Jimmer Fredette played exactly 28.1 seconds split between the second and fourth quarters. He went scoreless, but didn’t attempt a shot in his very limited action. The only stat he recorded was a defensive rebound late in the contest.
Fredette and the Pelicans are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Chicago to take on the Bulls.
