Anthony Davis had a huge night as the New Orleans Pelicans slipped past the Kevin Durant – less Oklahoma City Thunder 101 – 99 on Sunday night.
Davis was on fire on a night where his supporting cast struggled to make shots. He finished with 38 points on 16 of 22 shooting from the field to go along with 12 rebounds as the Pelicans improved to one game over .500 on the season. Jrue Holiday was in fine form as a distributor with 15 assists to go along with 11 points, but made just 4 of 12 shots from the floor. Tyreke Evans added 12 points on 6 of 17 shooting while Ryan Anderson had 14 points on 5 of 15 shooting from the floor. Alexis Ajinca added 10 points in 11 minutes off the bench while Omer Asik grabbed 12 rebounds.
Russell Westbrook led the way for the Thunder with 29 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Reggie Jackson also had a solid night with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Steven Adams and Perry Jones also had nice showings in the loss. Adams registered 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting to go along with 10 boards while Jones added 12 points of his own on 5 of 9 shooting from the field.
Jimmer Fredette did not play in the win. His role and minutes continue to be very inconsistent as the Pelicans try to find the right rotation to compete in a loaded Western Conference.
Up next for Fredette and the Pelicans is a matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night.
