Matt Carlino had a solid night as the Marquette Golden Eagles got huge production off the bench to knock off the Arizona State Sun Devils 78-71 on Tuesday night.
JaJuan Johnson led the way with 22 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the floor as well as four rebounds and three steals. In his first game with Marquette, Indiana transfer Luke Fischer also had a big night. He put up 19 points on 9 of 11 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and five blocks. The only starter to score in double figures was Duane Wilson who had 19 points as well as five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Gerry Blakes led the Sun Devils in the losing effort with 20 points on the strength of a 4 of 8 shooting night from 3-point land. Kodi Justice chipped in with 12 points while Eric Jacobsen had eight points and 10 boards.
Carlino played 29 minutes in the win and finished with nine points on 2 of 5 shooting from the floor, including 1 of 2 from beyond the arc and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. He also tallied five assists, four rebounds and a steal as the Golden Eagles improved to 5-4 on the season.
On the season, Carlino is averaging 13.2 points, 3.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals in nearly 31 minutes a night. Up next on the schedule is a Friday night matchup with Alabama A&M.
