The New Orleans Pelicans fell back under .500 as they lost a close contest 112-107 to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. The Mavericks had a hot-shooting night to improve to 17-7 on the season. They finished 44 of 83 from the floor (53 percent), including 9 of 21 from 3-point land (42.9 percent) and 15 of 17 from the line (88.2 percent).
Dallas used a balanced offensive attack in the win with four players scoring at least 20 points. Monta Ellis led the way with 26 points on 11 of 19 shooting to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki added 20 points and six boards while Chandler Parsons and Devin Harris chipped in with 20 points apiece.
Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday did most of the damage for the Pelicans in the loss. Davis had 31 points on the strength of a 9 for 9 shooting night from the free-throw line as well as 11 rebounds and two blocks. Holiday was just as good with 30 points on 12 of 22 hooting from the floor, including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. He also contributed 10 assists and three steals. The only other Pelican to score in double figures was Ryan Anderson who totaled 13 points.
Jimmer Fredette did not play once again. In fact, he has played a total of 7:05 in the last seven games combined.
Up next for the Pelicans is a Friday night matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
