Now that the Utah Jazz have matched the contract for Gordon Hayward and he is back in the fold for the next four years, it’s the perfect time to have a look back at the draft that brought him to the Jazz. The favorite topic of conversation when it comes to the 2010 draft for Jazz fans is how they missed on Paul George to take Hayward. While that is certainly true, it doesn’t tell the whole story.
The ’10 draft is full of players who are still looking to reach their immense potential.  To this point, only two players have been all-stars (Paul George and John Wall), but there are plenty of solid contributors.  The draft was 60 picks over two rounds with each round consisting of 30 picks.  Of the 60 players selected, 49 have played in the NBA so far, according to Basketball-Reference.com. Of the 49 players to appear in an NBA game, Derrick Caracter ( second round, 58th overall) was the player with the lowest pick in the draft to play in the league.

Here is a look at how the 2010 draft would go if we knew then, what we know now.

30.  Donald Sloan: Sloan wasn’t drafted after a successful career at Texas A&M.  He has played three seasons in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers.  His most impressive stretch came with the Cavaliers in 2011-12 when he averaged 6.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 25 games (11 starts).

To this point in his career, he has averaged 3.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 104 games.

29.  Elliot Williams: Williams was originally selected with the 22nd overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers.  He has played for the Trail Blazers and the Philadelphia 76ers since coming into the league.  His best season came with the 76ers in 2013-14 when he averaged six points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 67 appearances.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 5.4 points. 1.6 rebounds and nearly an assist a night in 91 games.

28.  Luke Babbitt: Babbitt was originally taken with the 16th overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on draft night.  He has spent his four-year career with the Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans.  His most productive season came with the Pelicans in 2013-14 when averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 27 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 153 games (six starts).

27.  Jeremy Evans: Evans was originally selected with the 25th pick in the second round (55th overall) by the Utah Jazz.  He has spent all four of his NBA seasons in a Jazz uniform.  His most productive season came in 2013-14 when he averaged 6.1 points on 52.7 percent shooting from the floor and 4.7 rebounds in 66 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged four points and 2.8 rebounds in 181 games (seven starts).

26.  Quincy Pondexter: Pondexter was originally taken with the 26th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder before he was traded to the New Orleans Hornets on draft night.  He has spent his four years in the NBA with the Hornets and the Memphis Grizzlies.  His most productive season came with the Grizzlies in in 2012-13 when he averaged 6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and one assist in 59 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in 204 games (17 starts).

25.  Landry Fields: Fields was originally selected with the ninth pick in the second round (39th overall) by the New York Knicks.  He has spent his four-year career with the Knicks and the Toronto Raptors.  his best season came with the Knicks as a rookie in 2010-11 when he averaged 9.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and one steal while starting all but one game.  If his production would have kept that pace, he would be much higher on this list, but his playing time and opportunity have taken a huge hit since he signed in Toronto.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 7.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 229 games (167 starts).

24.  Ekpe Udoh: Udoh was originally taken with the sixth overall pick by the Golden State Warriors.   He has spent his four-year career with the Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks.  His most productive season came in 2011-12 when he averaged 5.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 61 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and a block in 237 games (52 starts).

23.  Alexey Shved: Shved didn’t hear his name called in either round on draft night, but signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the summer of 2012.  He has spent two seasons with the Wolves and had his best year as a rookie in 2012-13.  That season, he averaged 8.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 77 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 140 games (16 starts).

22.  Xavier Henry: Henry was originally selected with the 12th overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies.  He has spent his four-year career with the Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets and the  Los Angeles Lakers.  His most productive season came with the Lakers in 2013-14 when he averaged 10 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and one steal in 43 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 5.9 points and two rebounds in 176 games (23 starts).

21.  James Anderson: Anderson was originally taken with the 20th overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs.  He has spent his four-year career with the Spurs, Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers.  He most productive season came with the 76ers in 2013-14 when he averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 80 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 196 games (68 starts).

20.  Kevin Seraphin: Seraphin was originally selected with the 17th overall pick by the Chicago Bulls before he was traded to the Washington Wizards on draft night.  He has spent the first four seasons in the NBA with the Wizards.  His most productive season came in 2012-13 when he averaged 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 79 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 247 games (31 starts).

19.  Wesley Johnson: Johnson was originally taken with the fourth overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He has spent his first four years with the Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers.  His best season came with the Lakers in 2013-14 when he averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and one block in 79 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 273 games (210 starts).

18.  Ed Davis: Davis was originally selected with the 13th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors.  He has spent his four-year career with the Raptors and the Memphis Grizzlies.  His most productive season came as a rookie in 2010-11 when he averaged 7.7 points on 57.6 percent shooting, 7.1 rebounds and one block in 65 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.9 points on 54.2 percent shooting and 5.9 rebounds in 275 games (58 starts).

17.  Trevor Booker: Booker was originally taken with the 23rd overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was traded to the Washington Wizards on draft night.  He spent the first four seasons in the NBA with the Wizards before signing with the Utah Jazz this offseason. His best year came in 2011-12 when he averaged 8.4 points on 53.1 percent shooting. 6.5 rebounds and one steal in 50 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 235 games (105 starts).

16.  Al-Farouq Aminu: Aminu was originally selected with the eighth overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers. He has played for the Clippers and the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans during his time in the NBA.  His best season came in 2012-13 with the Hornets when he averaged 7.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 76 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and one steal in 303 games(171 starts).

15.  Jordan Crawford: Crawford was originally taken with the 27th overall pick by the New Jersey Nets before he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks on draft night.  The well-traveled Crawford has played for the Hawks, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors in his four seasons in the league.  His most impressive statistical season came with the Wizards in 2011-12 when he averaged 14.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and three assists in 64 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 257 games (97 starts).

14.  Patrick Patterson: Patterson was originally selected with the 14th overall pick by the Houston Rockets.  He has played for the Rockets, Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors so far in his four-year career.  His most impressive season in 1012-13 when he averaged 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 71 games split between the Rockets and the Kings.

So far in his career, he has averaged 8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and one assist in 252 games (61 starts).

13.  Larry Sanders: Sanders was originally taken with the 15th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks and has spent his first four seasons in the league with them.  His most productive season came in 2012-13 when he earned himself a huge contract after he averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.8 blocks in 71 games.  He didn’t have the same kind of success last season, but still showed that he can be a great defensive presence when he is on the floor.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 6.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 206 games (87 starts).

12.  Evan Turner: if not for a disastrous stretch with the Indiana Pacers to end the 2013-14 season, Turner would be much higher on this list.  He was originally selected with the second overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers.  He has played for the 76ers and the Pacers during his four seasons in the league.  His most productive season came with Philadelphia in 2012-13 when he averaged 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists while starting all 82 games.

So far in his career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 306 games (172 starts).

11.  Greivis Vasquez: Vasquez was originally taken with the 28th overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies.  He has played for the Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors.  His best season came with the Hornets in 2012-13 when he averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and nine assists in 78 games.

So far in his career, he has averaged 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 293 games (128 starts).

10.  Jeremy Lin: the story of Jeremy Lin is one that most NBA fans won’t soon forget.  After he went undrafted coming out of Harvard, he bounced between the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets  and the D-league before getting a shot with the New York Knicks.  In his first nine games in New York, he played limited minutes and had little production, according to Basketball-reference.com.  Then in game 10, he got a chance and took full advantage.  That night, Lin came off the bench to score 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting   to go along with five rebounds, seven assists and two steals.  From that point, he started the last 25 games of his season and put up some huge games.  That season he averaged 14.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.6 steals.  After his breakout season, lin signed with the Houston Rockets where he has been a solid contributor the last two seasons.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 11.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 217 games (140  starts).

9.  Avery Bradley: Bradley was originally selected with the 19th overall pick by the Boston Celtics where he has played his first four seasons.  Bradley is a defensive stopper who has transformed himself into a solid offensive player as well.  With the departures of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, he took on much more a scoring load in 2013-14 and had his best offensive season to date.  In 60 games, he averaged 14.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals.

So far in his career, he has averaged 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 205 games (136 starts). He also earned all-defensive second-team honors in 2012-13.

8.  Lance Stephenson: Stephenson was originally taken with the 10th pick of the second round (40th overall) by the Indiana Pacers.  He spent the first four years of his career with the Pacers and saw his role and his game change drastically.  He played limited minutes behind Pacers star Danny Granger during his first two seasons.  In year three, he finally got his chance to earn big minutes with an injury to Granger and he produced.  His best season came in 2013-14 when he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 78 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 210 games (151 starts).

7.  Eric Bledsoe: Bledsoe was originally selected with the 18th pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder before he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on draft night.  He has played his four-year career with the Clippers and the Phoenix Suns.  Even though he showed flashes of brilliance with the Clippers, it wasn’t until he went to the Suns in 2013-14 that he showed he could do it consistently.  That season, he averaged 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 43 games.

So far in his career, he has averaged 8.7 points, three rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals in 240 games (78 starts).

6.  Gordon Hayward: Hayward was originally taken with the ninth overall pick by the Utah Jazz, where he has spent his first four seasons.  Each season his production has gone up even though his shooting numbers have gone down.  His best offensive output came in 2013-14 when he averaged 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 77 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 12 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 287 games (179 starts).

5.  Derrick Favors: Favors was originally taken with the third overall pick by the New Jersey Nets.  He only played 56 games in New Jersey before he was shipped off to the Jazz in a blockbuster deal that sent all-star point guard Deron Williams to the Nets.  Favors has been with the Jazz ever since and has finally started to show why he was drafted so high.  His most productive season came in 2013-14 when he averaged 13.3 points on 52.2 percent shooting from the floor, 8.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, one steal and 1.5 blocks in 73 games.

So far in his career, he has averaged 9.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 293 games (117 starts).

4.  Greg Monroe: Monroe was originally selected with the seventh overall pick by the Detroit Pistons, where he has spent his first four NBA seasons.  although the Pistons haven’t had a great deal of team success since he landed in Detroit, He is an impressive scorer on the block and big-time rebounder.  His best offensive output came in 2012-13 when he averaged 16 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 81 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 14 points, nine rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 309 games (277 starts).

3.  DeMarcus Cousins: Cousins was originally taken with the fifth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings.  He has spent his first four seasons in the league with the Kings and has been a great interior presence since day one.  In fact, he is one of the best post scorers in the NBA.  His most impressive season came in 2013-14 when he averaged 22.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 71 games.

So far in his career, he has averaged 17.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.4 steals and one block in 291 games (269 starts).

2.  John Wall: Wall was originally selected with the first overall pick by the Washington Wizards.  He has put up some big numbers since his first game in Washington because of his speed and aggressiveness, but has become a much better player in the recent years because of his improved shooting.  His best season came in 2013-14 when he made his first all-star game after he averaged 19.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.8 steals 82 games.

To this point in his career, he has averaged 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 266 games (254 starts).

1.  Paul George: George was originally taken with the 10th overall pick by the Indiana Pacers.  He has spent his first four seasons in Indiana and has become one of the best players in the NBA.  He is a fantastic defender who has developed into a very good perimeter scorer and slasher.  His best season came in 2013-14 when he averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 steals in 80 games.  That showing was good enough for him to earn all-defensive first-team as well as all-NBA third-team.

So far in his career, the two-time all-star has averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 286 games (244 starts).
