3:08 of playing time and a new beginning for Jimmer Fredette

With 3:08 left in the fourth quarter of a game that was already decided, Jimmer Fredette removed his warm ups as he moved towards the scorers table to check in.  Tim Hardaway Jr. was at the free-throw line trying to complete an and-one to cut into the Bulls’ 20 point lead.  That was the moment the Chicago career of Fredette started on Sunday afternoon.

The best part of that moment as a Jimmer fan was the reaction he received from the Bulls’ faithful as he checked in.  It even shocked the ABC announce team of Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen who were calling the game.  “Woo, talk about a warm welcome, that’s a nice feeling” was how Breen put It when the crowded roared after Jimmer was announced into the game.

He played the rest of the way as Chicago beat New York 109-90.  Fredette has been a member of the Bulls for less than 24 hours. He doesn’t even know the offense yet.  But he has already made his first basket (a 23-foot pull up on the break to stretch the Chicago lead to 24) in a Bulls’ uniform as well as grabbing a pair of rebounds.  He also found out what it is like to play on a team where it is about winning and nothing else.

Now he has 23 games to prove that he can be a fit for a winning team and earn a chance to get another contract in the NBA.
