I had a friend ask me how I could write after such a painful loss in the NFC Championship by the 49ers after Richard Sherman helped the Seahawks hold on for the win.
I love the San Francisco 49ers, but it is nothing like the passion I feel when I watch team Team Canada play hockey.
I didn’t sleep at all last night in anticipation of this game and now as I am watching it, my heart is about to jump out of my chest. It is very much like those old cartoons when a You can see the heart of a character stretching his shirt because its beating so fast.
I have loved hockey since I was very young, and like so many Canadians, I am as Patriotic as they come. Watching Olympic hockey is the end-all-be-all for me when it comes to my sports fandom. I can barely sit still watching all of this action.
To fully explain how much this means to me I have to look back to the 2010 Gold Medal game in Vancouver.
I went to church at a different ward just so I could watch the game live and then I went to my parents house. I needed to be with a pro-Canada crowd to watch it.
The game was extremely intense and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Canada had the lead late and I thought that they had clinched it, when my oldest brother starts saying the USA needs to score so this game can have more drama. I told him flatly to shut his mouth, but he kept up with it which was making me very mad. Then of course, USA scores to tie the game and he is happy about it because he wanted more drama. I told him to shut up and he persisted saying that it would make the game even better. At that point I had heard all I wanted to hear from him, so I told him (in as nice a way as I could) that if he didn’t shut up I was going to punch him in the face. I didn’t hit my brother that day thanks to the heroics of Sidney Crosby in overtime to give Canada the Gold.
Hopefully the men’s hockey at these Olympics can end with more Gold medals around the necks of my beloved Canadians, but if it doesn’t I am sure I will be in a terrible funk. My National Pride for my home land will allow me no other options.
Even though I have lived in the United States for The last 20 years, I am a Canadian at heart and always will be!!!
Jay, you have brought me to tears!
