While I watched my beloved 49ers go into Carolina and face a tough Panthers’ defense, I wondered aloud to myself; where would San Francisco be without the play of Anquan Boldin. Just like a season ago (while he was with the Baltimore Ravens), Boldin has been dominant in the playoffs. Today was no different. Boldin registered eight receptions for 136 of Colin Kaepernick’s 196 passing yards.
That is something he has done throughout his career no matter what team he suited up for. In 13 career playoff games, Boldin has 63 catches for 980 yards and seven touchdowns.
He isn’t just great in the playoffs either. Boldin was the San Francisco leader this year in catches (85) and receiving yards (1,179) and second in receiving touchdowns (7). That’s very impressive when you consider that the 49ers were without any other real option at wide receiver for much of the season. In fact, no other San Francisco wide receiver had even 20 catches or 300 yards.
It is hard to believe that the 49ers got him for next to nothing in the off-season, but I am sure glad that they did.
Without Anquan Boldin on the field, San Francisco would be at home watching the playoffs instead of making a run at another Super Bowl.
