Ranking the best quarterbacks in NFL history

There is a debate that rages on a year round basis between football fans that never seems to end.  At this time of year that argument seems to reach its apex.  The debate I am talking about is who is the greatest quarterback of all-time.

I am here to answer that question for you.  Now some of you may be wondering what qualifies me to give you that answer? Well that is easy! I love football, I watch it all the time (new and old games included), I love researching sports and I have an opinion.

I realize a list like this is totally subjective, but what I do is go into it without any preconceived notions of who should be ranked where and just base things on what I see.

The things that really made doing these rankings tricky is the fact that the game has changed so much since its inception.  The style of play would almost be unrecognizable to the pioneers Who played in the early days.  Because of that, each quarterback can’t be judge based on just stats or our list would be full of players from today and totally discount the legends of yesteryear.  That is not something that would create any kind of accuracy.

The things that I evaluated when doing the rankings are wins, winning percentage, Championships, Pro Bowls, All-Pro selections, touchdowns, touchdown to interception ratio, and last but not least, the value to their respective teams.  When comparing players from different eras I also factor in how dominant they were against their peers.

Now that you know what I looked at, the next step is to unveil my ranking of the 50 best quarterbacks in NFL history (but not just yet).

The rankings will be released one at a time so that I have the space and time to give you more in-depth info on each player and what made them great.

Note: feel free to tell me where you think I got it wrong.  In my mind, one of the best things about sports is the debate that ensues because of the passion we all have.
