Jimmer Fredette carried the offensive load as the Shanghai Sharks snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 116-106 win over the Beijing Fly Dragons on Sunday.

In his first game back in the lineup, the former BYU guard registered a game-high 42 points on 15-for-29 shooting from the field, including 7-for-15 from beyond the arc and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. He added seven assists, four rebounds, four steals and a block in 40 minutes of work.

Fredette got off to a hot start from the floor, connecting on a pair of threes in the opening minutes, but then settled in as more of a distributor, handing out five assists and collecting three steals to go along with 11 first-half points.

He then went to work on the offensive end after the break, delivering 31 points as the Sharks won their first game in 2019 to improve to 16-17 and stay in the hunt for the final playoff spot.

Fredette had plenty of help from his teammates in the win as four other Sharks scored in double figures, including Luis Scola who registered a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds while handing out four assists and swatting away two shots in 31 minutes off the bench.

Cai Liang also came up big with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor while Luo Hanchen added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Through 31 games (33 for the Sharks), Fredette is second in the CBA in scoring, averaging 37.6 points a night on 53 percent shooting from inside the arc, 41 percent from 3-point land and a league-best 95 percent at the foul line. He also chips in with 5.9 rebounds, a team-high 5.6 assists and a league-leading 3.0 steals in 40.3 minutes a contest.

Inside the numbers

• His 42-point performance was the 12th time this season that Fredette has reached the 40-point mark this season.
• With four steals and just one turnover, Sunday marked the 13th time this season that Fredette had more steals than turnovers.
• It also was the 13th time this season where Fredette has had at least four steals in a game.
• On an even more impressive note, Fredette is averaging more steals than turnovers on the season.

Up next for Fredette and the Sharks is a matchup with the Shandong Golden Stars on Tuesday. On the strength of four wins in their last five games, the Golden Stars are deadlocked with the Sharks, and two other teams, at 16-17 in the standings.

Two familiar faces for Shandong are Ty Lawson and Donatas Motiejunas. Lawson joined the team nine games ago and is putting up 27.1 points, 8.7 assists, and 5.0 rebounds while Motiejunas is averaging 25 points, 14.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.8 steals in 22 games.
