BYU Cougs in the news: Brandon Davies, Eric Mika have career nights; The latest on Collinsworth, Tavernari, Carlino and Broadus

Brandon Davies had one of the best offensive games of his pro career on Monday as Zalgiris fell to Siauliai, 93-90. In the loss, Davies totaled a game-high and season-best 25 points on 10-for-11 shooting from the field and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. He also managed two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28:36.

In 27 Lithuanian League games, Davies is averaging 8.9 points on 57.5 percent shooting with 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 16:15.

Eric Mika had one of his best games of the season over the weekend in an 88-68 loss to Openjobmetis Varese. In the loss, the former BYU big man tied his career-high with 21 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field and 1-for-2 from the foul line. He also chipped in with six rebounds (three on the offensive end), a block and a steal in 34 minutes.

It was his 20th double-figure scoring game of the season and his fourth time scoring more than 20 points.

Through 24 games, Mika is averaging 14.2 points on 53.6 percent shooting from the floor and 72.3 percent from the free-throw line. He also contributes 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.1 assists in 29.2 minutes.

That production has Mika ranked fifth in the league in player rating, seventh in rebounding and tied for 15th in scoring.

Jonathan Tavernari also had a productive night in a losing effort on Saturday as Dinamo Sassari fell 105-98 to New Basket Brindisi. The former Cougar sharp shooter finished with six points on 2-for-2 shooting from 3-point land while adding four rebounds in 18 minutes of work.

During the Italian league season, Tavernari has played 13 of 24 games and is averaging 5.0 points on 63.2 percent shooting from the floor, including a remarkable 63 percent from beyond the arc. He also chips in with 1.4 rebounds in 9.3 minutes.

His 63 percent shooting mark from 3-point range would easily be the best in the league if he had enough attempts.

Matt Carlino added a big stat line of his own as his Roseto Sharks dropped an 81-77 decision to Bondi Ferrara. Carlino totaled 18 points on the strength of a 4-for-10 shooting performance from distance. He added four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 34 minutes on the floor.

Through 18 games, Carlino is putting up 18.9 points a night to go along with 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals in 30.7 minutes.

Rashaun Broadus had his second double-figure scoring night in as many games in a 91-76 Vytautas loss to Lietkabelis. In the 15-point setback, the former BYU lead guard manged 11 points on 4-for-11 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-5 from 3-point range and 1-for-2 from the foul line. He added three assists and a rebound in 28 minutes.

In seven games, he is averaging 5.1 points and 2.7 assists in 17.9 minutes.

Kyle Collinsworth got his second DNP-CD in a row (did not play – coaches decision), on Sunday as the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Celeveland Cavaliers, 98-87.

Through 27 games, the NCAA’s triple-double king is averaging 2.7 points on 38.2 percent shooting with 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 13.7 minutes.
