The New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t over come an impressive outside shooting performance from Arron Afflalo and Danilo Gallinari as the Denver Nuggets came away with a 93-85 win on Wednesday night. They combined to hit 7-of-12 from distance as the Nuggets snapped a 7-game losing streak.
Afflalo led the scoring attack for Denver with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor with four assists. Jusuf Nurkic And Kenneth Fried also had solid showings in the win. Nurkic finished with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor as well as nine rebounds and two blocks while Faried registered 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Gallinari added 11 points while J.J. Hickson chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
Tyreke Evans and Anthony Davis led the way for the Pelicans in the loss. Evans finished with 25 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor to go along with six rebounds, but had just two assists and four turnovers while handling the point guard duties in place of Jrue Holiday. Davis added 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting as well as 12 rebounds and two blocked shots. Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson also scored in double figures, but struggled to make shots. Gordon totaled 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting with six rebounds and six assists while Anderson recorded 11 points of his own on 3-for-10 shooting. Omer Asik chipped in with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Jimmer Fredette made it back into the rotation for the night as he got most of the backup point guard minutes in place of Nate Wolters. He saw 7:51 of action, but went scoreless on 0-for-3 shooting from the field. He did manage one assist and the Pelicans were a +1 while he was on the floor.
Fredette and the Pelicans are back in action on Friday when they square off against the Los Angeles Clippers.
