Brandon Davies didn’t make much of an impact in limited minutes as the Philadelphia 76ers got the first win of the season with a 85-77 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Michael Carter-Williams led the way for the 76ers with 20 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and three steals. Robert Covington added 17 points on the strength of 3 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc. The Sixers also got solid efforts out of K.J. McDaniels and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. McDaniels had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks while Mbah a Moute added an identical 12 points and nine boards.
Second-year center Gorgui Dieng had a good night for the Timberwolves with 15 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mo Williams added 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds while Thaddeus Young chipped in with 16 points. Minnesota also got a double figure scoring night out of No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins who finished with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.
Davies played 9:52 off the bench and went scoreless while attempting just one shot from the floor (a long jumper late in the second quarter). He did manage to grab two offensive rebounds and collect a steal, but also had two turnovers and a pair of fouls.
Up next for Davies and the 76ers is a matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night.
