Matt Carlino played a solid floor game as the Golden Eagles fell to the No. 20 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 74-63 in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday night.
The Buckeyes got an excellent performance from senior guard Shannon Scott who finished with eight points on 4 of 7 shooting from the floor to go along with a career-high 14 assists and a pair of steals. With his skills as a distributor on full display, the Ohio State offense had a tremendous shooting night. The Buckeyes were 32 of 49 from the floor (65.3 percent), including 8 of 15 from 3-point range (53.3 percent). The catalyst in the scoring department was Kam Williams who finished with 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench. He was joined in double figures by Amir Williams, Sam Thompson and Marc Loving. Williams was 6-for-6 from the floor on his way to 12 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals while Thompson and Loving chipped in with 10 points a piece.
Steve Taylor Jr. led the way for Marquette with a game-high 20 points on 9 of 14 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Juan Anderson also had a solid night with six points, five rebounds and five assists.
Carlino played a game-high 38 minutes and finished with 10 points on the strength of 3-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc. He also collected two rebounds, handed out four assists and recorded a steal without turning the ball over. On the young season, he is averaging 10.5 points, 5.5 assists and a steal a game.
