Living in Utah as long as I have, I do my best to follow all of the players in pro sports who have local ties.
One of those players is Minnesota Vikings running back Matt Asiata. I don’t have to look too often since he has been playing behind a couple of studs since arriving in Minnesota and doesn’t get many touches.
Today was far from that however in the Vikings contest against the Eagles.
Asiata had what will no doubt be the most touches he will ever get in a single NFL game. In fact, he had ten times more carries today than he had in his entire NFL career combined to this point.
What he put up was one of the weirdest and most impressive stat lines you will ever see.
Asiata ran for 51 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in a 48-30 victory in his first career start.
Even though he averaged just 1.7 yards per carry against Philadelphia, Asiata had quite an impressive day. Not many players can say they scored three touchdowns in one game, let alone in the first game you ever get meaningful touches.
On top of that, Asiata had three receptions for another 15 yards.
He may not have another game like it, but either way this will be a game that he should never forget.
