A Blue Jays’ legend hangs ’em up

I have been waiting for this day to happen for a long time, but when I heard the news it was still a shock to me.

My favorite Toronto Blue Jay as an adult Roy Halladay signed with the Blue Jays on Monday to end his major league career where he started it.

Halladay is the best pitcher in Toronto franchise history and a no doubt Hall-of-Famer in my mind.  He was dominant on the hill in both Toronto and Philadelphia for the Phillies  During his illustrious 16-year career in the majors, Halladay had a record of 203-105 in 390 starts with an ERA of 3.38.  Doc won two Cy Young Awards while finishing as the runner-up two more times.  He had 67 completed games, threw 20 shutouts and was named an all-star eight times.

He carried the Blue Jays’ staff during some very lean years in Toronto and was a joy to watch perform when he stepped on the mound.  The day he left Toronto in search of a World Series Ring was a sad one for me, but I still cheered for him as a member of the Phillies as loud as I did as when he wore my favorite colors.

After a great start in Philadelphia which included a perfect game and a no-hitter in his first playoff start, the last few years have been rough due to injuries.

I’m sure it didn’t end the way he wanted it to, but even without an illusive World Series Ring, Halladay was the most exciting pitcher I have ever seen and will be missed
