The only way for the Utah Utes’ win over Stanford to hold it’s value

On Saturday afternoon the Utah Utes Beat the #5 ranked Stanford Cardinal in what some are calling one of the biggest wins on the gridiron in team history.

While the game was an impressive victory By the Utes, you can only classify it as one of the best wins the school has had if you are able to build on it.

That is a tall order indeed.  The Utes have six more PAC 12 games and four of them are on the road.  Only one of their remaining games can be considered even close to an easy game and that is against the Colorado Buffalos.  Although that’s what Ute fans and prognosticators thought two years ago when a terrible Colorado team that was 1-10 came into Rice Eccles Stadium and left with their first road win In four years and took the Utes spot in the PAC 12 championship game away at the same time.

If Utah coaches and players feel like they finally have their big conference win and don’t put in the necessary time to prepare for Arizona, that win will have meant nothing.  The Wildcats are far too talented on the offensive side of the ball to be taken lightly. Even though quarterback B.J. Denker isn’t in the top half of PAC 12 quarterbacks, he can still get it done.   Alongside him is one of the top five running backs in the country in Ka’Deem Carey.  There is no doubt that the Utah staff players and fans remember Carey very well after he torched them a year ago.  If they don’t, they should after Carey registered 204 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in last year’s 34-24 Arizona win.

If there are major worries in facing a team like Arizona then just imagine planning for the likes Arizona State and Oregon.  Both are much deeper and more talented than Arizona.  Even though both Washington State and USC are having up and down seasons, they still have far too much talent to be overlooked either.  Both of those games are on the road in hostile environments and will require Utah’s best effort to come out victorious.

For that signature PAC 12 win to carry the weight that everyone expects, the Utes need to Beat four of those teams to prove that it wasn’t a fluke and take a major step forward in the eyes of those in and around the PAC 12 as well as the Utah fan base in general.

I don’t know how you let Carey go for just under 250 on the ground, but there is no way you win a game when you let that happen. Utah isn’t a good enough football team to overlook anyone in the PAC 12 and at times they didn’t look ready to play tonight. To me that means they were looking ahead to playing USC and weren’t fully focused on the Wildcats. You cant do that in the PAC 12. This isn’t the Mountain West anymore and players, coaches and fans need to remember that.
