Ranking the best starting quarterbacks in the NFL today: #8-1

8.  Matthew Stafford- Stafford has plenty of weapons around him and every chance of leading the Lions back to the playoffs, especially after a 3-1 start to the season.  He really missed Calvin Johnson a week ago but still put up decent numbers in a loss to the Packers.  Stafford has put up some serious passing numbers for the 3-2 Lions throwing for more than 1,500 yards and eight touchdowns.

7.  Philip Rivers- Rivers struggled in the Chargers’ last game against Oakland, but has otherwise been a beast all season long.  He already has three 400 yard games this season as well as 13 touchdowns, while completing a remarkable 73.7 percent of his passes.

6.  Matt Ryan- Ryan just might be the most underrated quarterback in the entire NFL.  He doesn’t make many mistakes and always seems to be right on target.  With all the weapons that surround him Ryan is having another monster season, even though the Falcons have only one win.  Ryan is averaging close to 330 yards a game through the air and has thrown two touchdowns in every game.  It will be very interesting to see how Ryan does with the loss of Julio Jones.

5.  Tony Romo- Romo has all the tools to be a great quarterback in the NFL and this year he has already shown flashes of that brilliance.  Romo has completed at least 70 percent of his passes in every game this year but his last even though that was by far his most impressive game.  Romo completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 506 yards and five touchdowns in the Cowboys 51-48 loss to the Denver Broncos.

4.  Tom Brady- the Patriots have lost many of their best offensive players but as long as Brady is around they will always be a contender.  With a lack of weapons, Brady’s numbers aren’t very impressive but he still has managed to put up the most important stat; wins.  The Patriots are 4-1 so far this year and are on their way to making the playoffs in the unexpectedly tough AFC East.

3.  Aaron Rodgers. Even though the Packers are only 2-2, Rodgers is still slinging the ball all over the field.  He is averaging more than 330 yards passing a game and has already thrown nine touchdowns in four games.

2.  Drew Brees- Brees is the perfect fit for the saints’ offense having thrown for well over 5,000 yards each of the last two seasons.  This season has been much of the same as Brees has the Saints right back on track after a down year in 2012.  After throwing three interceptions in his first two games, Brees has only thrown one in the last three weeks for the 5-0 Saints.  Brees is averaging almost 350 yards passing a game to go along with his 12 touchdowns.

1.  Peyton Manning- after his fourth neck surgery many thought that Manning would take a huge step back in his first year with the Broncos.  That of course couldn’t have been farther from the truth.  With the addition of Wes Welker and Julius Thomas, Manning is even better than a season ago.  In fact, I don’t have the words to describe just how good Manning has been.  He started the season with a game for the ages by throwing for 462 yards and seven touchdowns against the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens and has not really slowed down since then.  In just five games for the undefeated Broncos, Manning has completed 75.8 percent of his passes for 1,884 yards and 20 touchdowns.
