Isn’t the game enough?

A line at a stadium for a bobble head is not a sports story and doesn’t need to be treated as such.  It’s the kind of story that I couldn’t care less about and the fact that Jim Rome spent what seemed like an eternity talking about it made me ill.

I don’t care that people had to wait for hours to get their merchandise.  Aren’t they there to watch baseball?

If I was at that game I wouldn’t have waited at all.  When I go to a game it’s to watch and not to get free stuff.  I realize that sporting events cost a lot of money but why do we always feel like we need to get a return on our money other than the game itself.  We already have the privilege of seeing the best players in the world perform and I for one think that is good enough.

I don’t need to get a T-shirt, or a mini ball or a bobble head to get my money’s worth out of the experience.  I always find it funny when fans who are clearly very well to do ( judging by where they are sitting ) jumping around and going crazy for a free prize.

Am I the only one who finds this odd?  They have spent thousands of dollars to be court level and they are freaking out about a shirt that may have cost a dollar to produce.  That is just silly.  It’s not like they would be caught dead wearing the thing anyways.  Is it because its free?   It’s one thing if you can get something that is game used, but it’s a completely different story when it’s just a give away.

I think as sports fans we need to be content with what we get out of the game we are watching and not all the other stuff that goes on at a ball park, stadium or arena.  I don’t ever want to waste a chance watching some of the game’s greatest players by waiting in line for a bobble head.
