Game 7 of the NBA finals between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs is tonight and I can’t wait. Games 7’s are the best thing about sports. Knowing that the whole season comes down to one game for all the marbles creates so much energy and excitement. Even non basketball fans will be tuning in to see the outcome of what could be an epic battle.
With all the anticipation and excitement there are a few things that I wish will happen tonight. I wish it will be a close game, decided in the 4th quarter. There’s nothing worse than making it to a game 7 and it being a blowout. I’m sure all the Spurs and Heat fans want a blowout in their favor but they are the only ones. I hope it is a well played game. Guys need to make free throws and not turn the ball over. Even if it’s close I still don’t want to see ugly basketball. On that same note, I hope we don’t see any flops. This is basketball, not acting. Let your play decide the game and not your diving skills. I hope that the officials don’t swallow their whistles. They have a job to do and every person watching tonight’s game should be hoping they do it well. The worst thing that could happen after this series is over is for there is be controversy because of bad calls. I don’t want to remember tonight’s game or this series that way. I hope that no player has a John Starks type experience tonight. If you don’t know what I mean by this, I will explain it. In game 7 of the 1994 finals, John Starks played 42 minutes for the New York Knicks but shot just 2 for 18 from the field, including 0 for 11 from three in a 6 point loss to the Houston Rockets. No player deserves that kind of fate.
The last thing I wish for is that the players leave it all on the floor. No one needs to do something stupid like getting technicals or getting ejected. I want the best players in the world on the floor. I want them playing their best, so that the better team wins.
