Collinsworth injury might affect if BYU gets a bid to the NCAA Tournament

I know this is going to seem like piling on, but I think this needs to be mentioned and discussed.

BYU announced on Wednesday night that sophomore guard Kyle Collinsworth is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.  I sure this is difficult news to swallow for players and staff as well as all the BYU faithful.  Collinsworth is a key piece to the Cougars’ success this season and a very big part of their bright future.

Because he was such a valuable member of BYU this season, his loss might affect whether or not the Cougars will get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.  The selection committee looks at how a team is presently constituted when doing seedings and deciding who gets the at-large bids (at least they have in the past).  BYU was very much a bubble type team with Collinsworth in the lineup so just imagine what they will be without him.  After all, I’m sure that is what the selection committee is doing right now.  He was an All-West Coast Conference selection and the floor general for the Cougars.  It will be next to impossible to replace what he does on the floor on a game in, game out basis.  Collinsworth is the Cougars’ second leading scorer at 14 points a night as well as their leading rebounder and assist man.

It’s just my opinion, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t hear the Cougars’ name called on selection Sunday because of the loss of Collinsworth.
