The Cougar NBA tracker: Jimmer Fredette, game 20

Jimmer had his most productive game of the season but the Kings got drilled by the Utah Jazz 122-101.

The Jazz made 13-of-23 three-point shots on their way to the largest margin of victory all season long.  They had five players score in double figures led by Richard Jefferson.  He finished the night with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting.  Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Alec Burks each finished with 17 points while Trey Burke registered 11 points and nine assists.

The Kings had six guys score in double figures led by DeMarcus Cousins who had 21 points and 11 rebounds.  Isaiah Thomas also had a solid night with 20 points and seven assists.

Playing the role as the Kings backup point guard for the second game in a row, Fredette played 11:38 and scored a season high 13 points.  Jimmer made 4-of-6 shots from the field including his only three and all four of his free throws.  Fredette also grabbed two rebounds and handed out an assist in the loss.

With as big of a blowout as the game was, I was hoping that he would play more, but clearly Coach Malone had other plans.  I’m still a little shocked that Jimmer doesn’t get at least the opportunity to stretch the floor in games like tonight.  Think about how much more successful Cousins and Thomas could be if they couldn’t get doubled with a shooter like Fredette on the floor.

The Kings will be back in action on Friday night as they travel to Phoenix to battle the Suns.
