The Cougar NBA tracker: Jimmer Fredette, game 19

The trade that the Kings made on Sunday did translate into minutes for Jimmer, but in a completely different role than what he had played all season as Sacramento destroyed the Dallas Mavericks 112-97.

Sacramento got monster night from Derrick Williams, DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas as they steamrolled Dallas.

Williams had a career night to this point with 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting to go along with five rebounds and five steals.  Cousins had his way all night long with the soft Mavericks defense and ended up with 32 points and 19 rebounds even though he turned the ball over nine times..  Thomas took advantage of his spot back in the starting lineup and recorded his first double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 assists.

Dallas was led by Monta Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki in the loss.  Ellis finished the night with 21 points three rebounds, five assists and  two steals.  Nowitzki contributed 18 points to go along with six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks.

When Jimmer stepped on the hardwood on Monday night it wasn’t at his customary spot as the off guard but as the backup point.  Jimmer played exactly 5:34 in the first half and struggled mightily with responsibility that he clearly wasn’t used to and it showed.  Fredette missed two shots from the field including one from 3-point range and committed two fouls.  He also had one turnover and two rebounds in his short stint on the floor.

Even though the Kings had a substantial lead for most of the second half, Fredette didn’t re-enter the game until there were only a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.  During that stretch, Jimmer recorded a bucket and another turnover.

In total, Fredette played 9:36 and shot 1-of-3 from the field to finish the night with two points, two rebounds, two turnovers and two fouls.

With the win, the Kings record now stands at 6-13.  They will be back on the floor on Wednesday night as they take on the Utah Jazz at home.
