The Cougar NBA tracker: Jimmer Fredette, game 18

Jimmer Fredette got his fifth DNP in a row as the Sacramento Kings escaped with a 112-102 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz.

After a slow start to the game that included two fouls in the opening minute, Kings’ star DeMarcus Cousins got it rolling.   After scoring five points and grabbing no rebounds in the first half, Cousins put on a show.  He scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the second half and overtime to lead the Kings.

Isiah Thomas also had a huge second half and overtime and finished the game with 26 points, eight assists and four steals.

The Jazz got solid contributions from plenty of players but without Derrick Favors they had no answer for Cousins.

On the night, they were led by a trio of young guards In Trey Burke, Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward.

Even though he had an off shooting night, Trey Burke finished with 19 points, ten rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Alec Burks came off the bench and scored 19 points in 37 minutes of action on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds and handed out five assists.

Gordon Hayward also struggled shooting the ball but was able to get to the line and finished the game with 22 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two block shots.

On a night where the Kings played 12 players, Jimmer was not one of them even though the Kings off guards shot a combined 9-of-32 from the floor and 1-of-9 from three-point range.  If there wasn’t minutes for him on a night like that, there appears to be absolutely no role for him on this team.  Unless he gets moved, this is going to be a long, long season.

There were rumors floating around yesterday that Jimmer would be traded to the Toronto Raptors for Aaron Gray.  Hopefully there is some validity to that so that Fredette will finally get a chance to prove his worth.
