an important note for women during football season

My wife got home tonight just in time to see the last few minutes of the Utah State Aggies versus the Utah Utes.  As our guests left and the game ended, we went upstairs and she asked what we had to watch on television.  My answer was the same one I will be giving every night for at least the next three months.  “There is another football game on baby.”  The look on her face said it all.

I know my dear wife doesn’t like this time of year at all and I know she’s not alone.

Most women don’t really like football (at least that’s been my experience) or anything that has to do with the game.  Maybe it’s because the game is too violent or the last five minutes of a game can take an hour.  Let’s be honest; I’m not stupid enough to ever ask that question.

I think the thing my wife dislikes the most about football season is the time I spend playing the fantasy game.  She doesn’t get why I take any time to do something like that.  It has no appeal to her.

I will let you women in on a secret.  Just like you don’t understand why we love playing fantasy football, we don’t understand the appeal of pinterest.  Now think of the last time you looked at the female version of fantasy football.  That’s right…it wasn’t for just a minute or two was it?  And how long does your fantasy season last?  Oh… you’re telling me that it lasts all year round.

Think about that the next time you give your husband or boyfriend crap.  You are in the exact same situation and it never stops.  Now think of how often your Man gives you grief for your obsession.  I’m guessing hardly ever and that probably because they are in their man cave watching a game or on the computer trying to make a fantasy trade.

If that doesn’t soften your stance about the fantasy game then maybe this will help.  I, like most men, don’t really have any free time.  With all the responsibilities I have, the only time I get to interact with my friends is if I’m playing sports with them (whether fantasy or the actual games).  It is one of the only ways that we stay connected.  We get to have fun, compete and talk trash like friends do, without neglecting the things we have to do.  I bet you never really thought of that now did you.

So the next time you see your man on the computer making a few roster changes give him a break.  He’s having fun with his friends and not getting into any trouble in the process.  And let’s face it, if fantasy football is the biggest of your concerns, then chances are you found yourself a good man.

  1. Watching football isn’t that bad, its the NOISE that comes with with it. I feel this way about watching any sport on TV. After awhile, the noise of the crowd (and sometimes the idiot sports casters who don’t know what they’re talking about) gets annoying. This goes for basketball and soccer as well. I will agree that pinterest is like fantasy sports. However, I think that we should all maybe hangout with our friends in the same room once in a while….it’d be better than virtually!
